Jim Crow Era – 1877 – 1965

The Jim Crow era was the racist southern states’ attempt to nullify the impact of the 15th Amendment. Poll Taxes and literacy tests would be aimed at black men who were often poor and uneducated due to being enslaved. Literacy tests were often almost impossible to pass. Jim Crow would end with the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
