Symm v. United States Result – January 15th, 1979
A landmark U.S. Supreme Court case about voting discrimination against students, where LeRoy Symm, a Waller County Tax Collector, made PVAMU students registering to vote take a questionnaire. This questionnaire asked questions like “Are you a college student?” “Do you have a job or position in Waller County?” The questionnaire was used to determine students’ right to vote in Waller County. Judges ruled that Symms questionnaire violated the 26th Amendment. This court case reaffirmed students’ right to vote where they went to school.
