1965 Voting Rights Act – August 6th, 1965

The 1965 Voting Rights Act overturned Jim Crow Laws that had disfranchised African Americans for almost 100 years. It eliminated Literacy Tests, Poll Taxes, and any other under-the-table attempts to disenfranchise voters. It protected the black right to vote.
