The Dismissal – An analysis of the 7th of May, 1992 (Buddy’s letter to the editor)
McCaig explains in a newspaper article how he wanted to use these indictments to try to find “those persons who were misinforming or manipulation potential voters”. What he fails to mention is his own tactic is a manipulative to scare people from voting.
McCaig used and abused the power of the state to drag people into the courthouse to prevent Black people from voting. He sought an indictment to create what is called a “chilling effect”: a process where people become scared to do a thing (in this case voting) because of what happened to the previous people who tried to do the same thing.
McCaig finishes his letter to the editor with flowery language about how white racists and black racists are bad; ignoring the fact that there has never once been a jurisdiction in the USA where black racists were able to prevent innocent white citizens from voting, where as many jurisdiction have, and will continue to, prevent innocent black citizens from voting at the request of white racists.
