Terrell Election Law – 1903

The Terrell Election Law allowed for members of the Democratic Party to control who could vote in their primary elections. They would use this law to exclude African American men from voting. Due to one party control in Texas, eliminating black men from voting in primaries essentially eliminated them from voting altogether.
